The Old Post Office
The restoration and redevelopment of the old post office building at Galle Fort.
Within the ramparts of Galle — a town written into the annals of the sea — stands the old post office, its stout Dutch-and-British walls still holding the scent of sealing wax and telegram paper. From its counter, letters departed on three-month voyages; from its telegraph, news crossed the ocean in an afternoon.
Now Colonial Properties (Pvt) Ltd undertakes its restoration and redevelopment — a careful, considered revival that returns the building to the community as a grand heritage home, complete with lobby, bar, dining hall and a middle courtyard corridor where the old fort light falls as it always has.

to Grand Home
The Building Rises
Erected in the era of the British regime, the post office becomes the keeper of the fort's correspondence.
The Age of the Stamp
Through war and peace, hand-stamped letters carry the island's news from this quiet counter.
A New Custodian
The building comes under the attention of Colonial Properties (Pvt) Ltd, and a plan for revival is laid.
The Restoration Begins
On the 1st of August, the masons, carpenters and conservators take up their tools.
A Grand Reopening
On the 1st of August, the doors swing wide once more — to the public, the traveller and the ages.
